I needed this today!

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

knowledge or love?

i was reading this morning in 1 corinthians:8 and was struck by a particular thought. in verses 1-3, paul says, "we all possess knowledge. but knowledge puffs up while love builds up. those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know. but whoever loves God is known by God."

i was struck, thinking many of us come to church seeking to "know more" about God, but how often do we come together to really let God change us... to learn to love more. sure, knowledge is helpful but if that knowledge doesn't somehow change us and cause us to live our lives differently (in this case, loving more) then all we get is a big head. as he says in verse 2, "those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know." true knowledge of God that changes us, brings with it humility, whereas knowledge alone that doesn't affect our lives only brings pride.

let love change you!
